Painting pigments can be divided into water-soluble pigments, oil-soluble pigments, and solid pigments.  Their components include colorants, fillers, binders, and certain additives such as plasticizers, stabilizers, drying retardants, or drying accelerators. Foaming is a common problem in the production and use of painting pigments, and the formation of foam can affect the painting results. Therefore, defoamers for painting pigments are needed to solve the foaming problem.

Painting pigments include acrylic paints, oil paints, traditional Chinese painting pigments, gouache paints, and watercolor paints.  When choosing pigments, it's important to consider the selective absorption of white light components by the color. Generally, the smaller the particle size, the deeper the hue and the greater the brightness; opacity refers to the ability of the pigment to cover the surface of the substrate; tinting strength refers to the ability of one color to affect the intensity of another color when mixed. Stronger tinting strength means less pigment is needed.

There are several reasons for foaming in painting pigments. One reason is uneven mixing of the pigment and water, resulting in density differences that cause bubbles to form after the paint dries. Another reason is that during painting, the brush does not fully absorb the pigment, causing air to be trapped between the brush bristles, leading to foam formation. Additionally, the additives used in the preparation of painting pigments contain surfactants, which have foaming properties.

Excessive foam needs to be eliminated promptly, otherwise, it will have several negative effects. If the foam is not removed in time, it will remain in the paint, and during painting, it will not dissipate, leading to surface defects such as blistering and pinholes, affecting the aesthetic quality of the painting. The presence of foam also affects the performance and quality of the paint, causing discoloration and reducing its opacity and tinting strength, resulting in quality problems.

To address the numerous problems caused by foaming in painting pigments, a painting pigment defoamer can be used. This defoamer reduces the surface tension of the paint, inhibits foam formation, and eliminates existing foam. It features fast defoaming, long-lasting foam suppression, and low dosage; it has a wide range of applications and can stably perform its defoaming and foam suppression functions even in strong acid, strong alkali, and high-temperature environments; it is also highly water-soluble and disperses quickly.
