Water treatment defoamers are chemical additives used in water treatment processes to control and eliminate foam formation in water. Foam can occur in a variety of water treatment applications, including wastewater treatment and aeration tanks, where it can interfere with the efficiency of the treatment process.
How is foam formed in sewage treatment?
Sewage contains large amounts of surfactants. Surfactants reduce the surface tension of water and cause foam to form when water comes into contact with air, thereby increasing the amount and stability of foam in sewage. There are organic substances and grease in sewage. These organic substances and oils are oxidized and decomposed during the treatment process, producing gas and thus foam. During wastewater treatment, foam formation can lead to malfunction or shutdown of treatment equipment.
How is the foam in the aeration tank formed?
It is formed by some pollutants and surface active substances in sewage under the stirring and stripping action of aeration. During the live mud cultivation period, there are more chemical foams, and sometimes foam mountains up to several meters high are formed on the surface of the aeration tank.
Ingredients of water treatment defoamer
1. The active ingredients of water treatment defoaming agents include fatty alcohols, modified silicone polyethers, polyethers, higher alcohols, mineral oil, etc. Their function is to break foam, suppress foam, defoam, and reduce surface tension.
2. The carriers of water treatment defoaming agents include water, solvents, aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, oxygenated solvents, etc. Their function is to help combine the carrier and the foaming system, and can be easily dispersed into the foaming system. Combining the two, their surface tension is low, helping to suppress foam, and can reduce costs.
3. The additives contained in water treatment defoaming agents include dispersants, emulsifiers, tackifiers, polyvinyl ether, etc. Their function is to achieve better dispersion and emulsification effects.
How water treatment defoaming agents work?
Particles insoluble in water → dispersed in the liquid → adsorbed on the bubble membrane → invade the bubble membrane→Expanding film → bubble bursting
